Along Brenta river: the magnificent Villas

Why don’t you take a day to explore the Veneto countryside?

Around Venice there are many Villas owned by most important noble families. When the Republic of Venice decided to invest on the mainland, the families bought lands, built splendid architectures and used to spend time to oversee the agriculture activities.

The “life in Villa” flourished as the occasion to enjoy the pleasure of good food and wine, balls, feasts and traditions.

La Malcontenta Villa

Built by Andrea Palladio in the second half of the 16th c., is one of the most known villa in the Veneto countryside.

Placed on the meander of the Brenta river, it reveals to the viewer the splendid front, conceived like a classical temple.

The remains of the frescoes inside can tell the life and leisure of the Venetian nobleman of the past.

Pisani Villa

Huge and elegant, Pisani Villa is the biggest of the residences built in the countryside by the Venetian nobility.

Owned by the Pisani family, it competes with Versailles and other royal residences in Europe.

Decorated by charming frescoes, among them those by Giambattista Tiepolo, it is one of the unmissable venues in Veneto.

The visit includes the rich rooms and the garden, embellished by other classical architectures and by a curious maze.

Andrea Palladio

Born in Padua, educated between Vicenza and Rome, Andrea Palladio is the most famous Italian architect of the 16th century.

In Vicenza he built several palazzos and the imposing Basilica, while in the countryside his name is famous for the villas he projected for the noblemen, such as La Rotonda, Emo, Badoer and La Malcontenta.

When he finally achieved to work in Venice, the commissions there were all about churches. St. George, Redentore, the façade of St. Francesco della Vigna. The architect, with his projects, gave to the city on the water, a new classical feature.
